BIOGRAPHY
Minya Mikic is an extraordinary union of two kinds of spirits: an athletic (she was a gymnastic champion) and an artistic one (both her parents are painters). Born in 1975 in Novi Sad (Serbia) in a family of artists, she developed a free and restless personality. Even before she finished her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Novi Sad she initiated her professional activity by opening her studio for graphic design and a school for artistic drawing. In 1999, a year before graduation, she moved to Rome where she began her Italian adventure. In the past nine years she has worked as a graphic designer and a visual artist and has extended her market outside Italy. In 2006 she decided to enter the New York art scene and quickly established an excellent relationship with Monkdogz Urban Art gallery in Chelsea, the artistic heart of Manhattan. After a couple of group exhibitions in this gallery and her solo presentation at KunStart in Bolzano, Italy in 2007, Minya’s first New York solo exhibition is scheduled for October this year. Roman public had a privilege to see a small preview of this exhibition on two occasions: in May this year in Galleria della Tartaruga, in the historic centre of Rome, the famous via Sistina, where her works on canvas where exhibited and in July at the “Singita”, Fregene a sea resort near Rome, where she presented her singular works on plexiglas painted on both sides. - 2010 – Minya donates her work to Haiti Art Fund (www.haitiartfund.com) - 2009 – Monkdogz Urban Art NY, for the second time presents Minya’s work at the KunStart international art fair in Bolzano, Italy - 2008 – Minya’s first solo New York exhibition at Monkdogz Urban Art gallery in Chelsea - 2008 – Minya opens her studio in Zurich, Switzerland - 2007 – Serbian Olympic Committee commissioned her the creation of new logo - 2007 – she made a new trademark for Serbian National Federation of Gymnastics - 2007 - Banca Sara bought a set of her paintings for its premises in Rome - 2006 – Minya won the concourse for trademark design of annual conference of Information Theory in USA.
